  • 05/04/04--22:00: Docker D1632 *Sanctuary Dog* (chan 1428701)
  •  Darling, sweet Docker came to us on 5-5-04 from the Tracy Shelter. Docker is perhaps one of the most remarkable & amazing dogs we have ever met.  He is precious and loves everyone.  Docker's spine however, never developed normally and as a result, he is has no control or feeling of when he goes potty or urinates. His foster family has to diaper him as you would an infant and Docker is fine with that.  He is always happy and very loved at his sanctuary home.  Docker continues to see our vets for various medical conditions and needs to insure he is comforable with his lower GI issues.

  • 10/02/04--22:00: Rainer/Shasta - T (chan 1428701)
  •  Shasta is all black and Rainer is black & white. They are both dog friendly and  wonderful companions.  Both were adopted Jan. 2005, but now need new homes because family has a baby and no time to care for them.  Both are friendly and need committed home for life.

  • 01/07/05--22:00: Barney D2360 (old D1401) Pepito (chan 1428701)
  •  Barney (Watch my video!) was rescued from Hayward Animal Shelter 1/7/05. He was there since 12/6/04.   He was adopted but now returned to FFR June 22, 2009 because his family now has twin toddlers and less time.  He was also nervous of the kids.  He is gentle and sensitive.  Happy boy who is friendly and well behaved.  He enjoys being petted on his head/body but not his rear/hind leg (he will warn/nibble).  No medical reason.  Behavorial.  Now that is comforable at his foster home, he trusts her and no problem.  He prefers not to be over-coddled.  He's very frighten of the vet office and hates vet exams.  Good with other dogs when he lived with 3 others.  Nice to new gentle dogs.  Will bark back at assertive dogs.  He loves his walks to sniff and good on leash.  He enjoys lounging around at home and will follow you around. Knows the doggie door.  Loves treats and will sit on command.  Obedient and well behaved at home.  He needs a  experienced Cocker Spaniel guardian with leadership and stable routine.  No kids.  Quiet and stable adult home.  He is soulful and adorable, quirks and all.

  • 11/20/05--22:00: Butterscotch 06-2819 (chan 1428701)
  •  Butterscotch lost his eye on a rose thorn when he was a kitten. but that doesn't stop him. He can run and play just like other cats and makes the cutest faces. He's sweet and a bit shy...and would do well in a one kitty household where he can be the center of attention. He was adopted Nov, 2005 by an elderly person who became too ill to care for him and returned him to us. He was adopted again, but months later returned him due to personal health reasons. So, he's back with us in a kind foster home who squeezed him into her home and looking for his forever home as a true family member for life. See him on YouTube! Butterscotch will need dental & cleaning.  Cost $300.

  • 12/13/05--22:00: Persephone D1772 *Sanctuary Dog* (chan 1428701)
  •  Beautiful Persephone is well behaved in the home, good with people she knows and knows some basic commands. She grew up with her brother. But, now grown up, she is very fearful of strangers and new dogs at first, but will settle. She needs a quiet adult home with experience in handling her when meeting or seeing other dogs and new people and helping her learn it is positive.  Since she is doing so well at her foster home, she is now a sanctuary dog so she won't have to go thru another change which is terrifying for her.

  • 01/11/06--22:00: Sissy C1966 (chan 1428701)
  •  Very friendly girl.

  • 02/24/06--22:00: Pumpkin C1226 (chan 1428701)
  •  Pumpkin was returned because her guardian passed away who adopted her. She is cat friendly medium sized cat. Right now she is very scared and will need time to adjust to a new quiet home. She is a one person cat. Need very experienced person that will give her time to adjust.

  • 05/25/06--22:00: Pumpkin 08-0957 (chan 1428701)
  •  Pumpkin is a sweet boy who wants human companionship and would do well in a family with older children, but no other pets. He was adopted from FFR in 2002 at 3 mos old...but his family moved out of the US so Pumpkin was returned to us. He has a gentle purr that starts as soon as he's picked up...he's looking for someone who will sit with him and pet him. He loves catnip toys and feathers. Will you be his forever home?

  • 05/27/06--22:00: Trevor 05-3167 (chan 1428701)

  • 07/22/06--22:00: Hugo 07-3238*Missing* (chan 1428701)
  •  Rescued from TCAS and adopted Sept. 2006 as a kitten. Friendly and affectionate.  Sibling with Desmine & Toby.  Now, April 2011, poor Hugo needs a new home due to home changes, child has allergies and he doesn't get along with another male cat.  He is friendly with people/kids, calm and affectionate.  Needs a diet and some exercise to lose some weight.  He prefers to be the only cat in the household. Hugo was adopted, but accidently got out and has been missing since mid June.  He is friendly.

She's a sweet girl that enjoys attention which she demands by sitting on the computer mouse. She and her brother both love feather toys and treats. See her on YouTube!

  • 03/08/07--22:00: Marty D1819 (chan 1428701)
  •  Rescued from Hayward Shelter. Marty is a very affectionate, easy going and sweet boy. He is very playful and loves running around. He is best buddies with his foster home's other dogs (small and large).  He can also be quiet and calm.  Loves to sit on your lap.  He is well behaved, listens to basic commands and loves to cuddle and be your best friend.  He may chase cats. Children over 12 would be best.   Marty is a true sweetie!

  • 05/29/07--22:00: Dice D2038 Sanctuary Dog (chan 1428701)
  •  Dice was adopted from FFR in 2002. He was returned 7/31/07 due to an unfortunate and unforeseen situation with his family who loved him dearly. Dice is now a FFRescue Sanctuary Dog who will live out his life with his loving foster family. Any donations towards his care is always appreciated.  He's a sweetie, well behaved, gentle and friendly with everyone.  Easy going.  Great with other dogs and cats. 1/2011, Dice now needs a new foster home or adopter due to move. 5/10/11:  Poor Dice had to have dental surgery today for two infected teeth and gums.  Surgery cost us $600.  So far we have spent about $1500 on Dice, and need help with his vet expenses.  Donation and sponsorship is greatly neeed for sweet little Dice.

  • 07/16/07--22:00: Titan D2027 (chan 1428701)
  •  We rescued Titan from a shelter where he was running out of time, mostly due to a dog-aggressive and redirect behavioral problem. But there's something special about Titan so we decided to put in an extra effort to help him and is responding very well with dogs on-site now.  He's a beautiful dog, very affectionate and loves people.  Loves to play ball and well behaved at foster home.  He needs a very experienced german shepherd person who will continue his training and exercise him daily.  His trainers are willing to continue working with whomever adopts him. He now has a bright future and will thank you every day.

  • 08/11/07--22:00: Angelo 07-3414 (chan 1428701)
  •  Hi! I am 100 percent teenage kitten, that's right, I can be a busy boy. Love to tackle your hand yet usually you don't get scratched, I may act rough but am really a gentleman. Like to take my toys into the bathtub and run around; will "help" with mopping, sweeping, making beds, and will want to help you brush your teeth. Love to cuddle under your chin while you watch TV. I am Adorable and charming and want to be your best friend forever. Great with other indoor cats.   Full of personality and life.  He loves to play with his toys in the bathtub, and play fetch (actually brings the toy back to me)!Angelo had been to a specialist and got confirmation of a Progressive Restrictive Cardiomyopathy and mild non-progressive cardiomyopathy.  The vet could not give us any idea if and when his heart would start giving him difficulties. Vet did state that someday when it does act up there are meds that will help for awhile.

  • 08/13/07--22:00: Don Diego Vega 10-3453 (chan 1428701)
  •  "Don Diego Vega" is playful and loving. He would be a good addition to any home.

  • 11/06/07--22:00: Cassidy 08-3426 (chan 1428701)
  •  Cassidy has been with her foster home since she was 3 weeks old.  She lives with her foster family with two other cats and the foster's family dogs.  Cassidy has grown up to be a vocal kitty, always letting everyone know when the food dish is empty by letting out a long, drawn out 'meeeeeoooooow' .  As she grew into an adolescent cat from a kitten, she has lost her confidence.  When the house is quiet, she will join her foster parents on the couch for some chin and back scratches.  She sleeps on the bed with the foster parents and the other two cats.  When elsewhere in the house, she is constantly on guard.  Her nervous behavior is here to stay, but this does not take away from the enjoyment that her company and presence brings.  She is still very playful, batting around her cat toys and carrying them around with her.

  • 12/01/07--22:00: Danny 10-3451 (chan 1428701)
  •  Danny was adopted as a kitten in 2008, but was returned Jan. 2012.  Danny is a curious and sociable.  He has beautiful golden eyes and soft, shiny black fur. He enjoys interactive play and tummy rubs. Danny's adopter was devastated to return him, but he didn't play nice with their toddler. He's gentle and friendly with older children and adults, and seems to do best in a quieter home.

  • 02/05/08--22:00: Heidi 02-3475 (chan 1428701)
  •  Please meet Heidi - AKA "Purring Machine"! Heidi was rescued as a stray in a feral colony in 2008. She was so friendly that FFR has taken her in. Her sister is also a super sweet kitty, Sarah (03-3478).She sleeps with her foster parents on their bed, leaning on fostermom, or sometimes on top of her. She is looking for a quiet home with no young children. She may do well with other cat(s) who is calm and accepts her.

  • 02/12/08--22:00: Lady D2524 (was D2168 (chan 1428701)
  •  Lady (watch my video!) was returned on 4/8/10 since she needs a quieter home (less foot traffic of people) and experienced, kind leadership guardian.  Lady was rescued from Tri-City Animal Shelter. She is very well behaved at home, friendly and very sweet. Can be petted all over, carried, good on the leash, and gentle. Sits for treats and very attentive and obedient. She seems to prefer gentle male dogs (small or big) to be next to them, sniff, walk around but doesn't play with other dogs. She did not like a over-active female jumping at her.  She will bark at other dogs on walks and needs a person with training skills.  She prefers to be the only dog in the household.  Lady is OK with cats.  Friendly with people at our vet office.  Once settled in her home, she may try to protect your home to strangers since she has some cattle dog traits.  So she needs a leader to train her with new people and proper introductions.  Confident Adult home with experience.  She wants to be your best friend.

  • 03/24/08--22:00: Sarah 03-3478 (chan 1428701)

She's sweet and quickly learned to adjustto pampered life at her foster home. Just by a soft touch, shestarts purring! She does well with other cat(s).

  • 08/20/08--22:00: Maggie D02246 *Sanctuary Dog* (chan 1428701)
  •  Sanctuary dog: Maggie and her son, Calvin, were rescued from Hayward Shelter on 8/20/08. Both were badly neglected. Maggie was never groomed and extremely matted. But after her bath & make-over grooming, she is now beautiful. She is friendly with people she trusts, then gentle, adorable and a sweetheart. Leary of strangers. She did great at her two foster homes and was social, but months later, in a home, she became more fearful of strangers or new people who try to pet her head & learned to growl/nip to protect herself (insecure). She goes up to people for treats, but doesn't want to be petted unless she knows/trust the person. Good on leash and sits for treats. She needs a quiet adult home with routine and to bond to one adult person (kind leader/training experience) only. To protect Maggie, she is now a sanctuary dog with a FFR person whom she is bonded to. With person she bonds to, she is very cooperative, easy-going and well behaved.

  •  Felicity is a beautiful and petite 6 year old who's family decided they could not give her enough attention after the birth of their 2nd child and returned her to Furry Friends. Felicity is shy, sensitive and craves human company, but is not good with other animals.  She would be a wonderful companion for someone looking for a one and only little sweety to love.  Her favorite thing to do is to curl up and sleep at her foster mom's side. Felicity now needs dental care & cleaning.  Cost to FFR about $300.

  • 09/18/08--22:55: Ban Puppy Mills! (chan 1428701)
  •  Don't Buy, Adopt & Save a Life! www.stoppuppymills.org www.banpuppymills.com A puppy mill is a breeding facility that mass produces puppies for sale. There are thousands of puppy mills across the country, producing over 2 million puppies per year. These facilities, most of which are inspected and licensed by the U.S.D.A., are notorious for their filthy, overcrowded conditions and the unhealthy animals they produce. Puppy mills are also the leading contributor to animal shelter overcrowding and the mass euthanasia.

  •   The holiday season is a season of giving.. and of gift giving! If you're thinking of giving a dog or a cat as a pet for someone else, please think thoroughly through your decision before picking up an animal. We are BIG commitments and we want a forever home, not a seasonal one. There are lots of things to consider when getting a new pet, can you afford the food, vet, and of course the ever important treat and toy bills? Where are you going to get the animal? There are so many puppy mills out there mistreating animals and if you purchase one from a pet store, there are strong chances you're supporting those inhumane places... • 12/17/08--10:45: Please consider an online donation to Furry Friend (chan 1428701)
  •   Everyone is experiencing hardships this year, yet I have seen the spirit of giving shine brighter than before! Everywhere people are coming together to rescue animals, collect food for the hungry, and help give warmth to those who are stuck in the cold. As people experience economic difficulties they often have to give up their pets. Many end up in the shelters where they are in danger of being euthanized if not adopted or rescued quickly. Some shelters, due to the overwhelming number of animals being dumped, can only give these animals a few days before they're put to sleep. 'Tis the season to give the Gift of Hope and a second chance to save a dog or cat's life. This holiday season, Furry Friends Rescue is asking that you dig deeper into your hearts and considering giving a little more of yourself this year. Perhaps, adopting a new dog or cat, or becoming a foster home so that an animal has a second chance to find a forever home is a way you can give back. If you can't do that, all rescues and shelters would greatly appreciate monetary and in-kind donations of any amount! Every penny will help save an innocent furry life! Please consider an online donation to Furry Friends Rescue right now! www.firstgiving.com/ffrholidayappeal We give thanks to our good health, friends and family (both human and furry). Thank you all for your support and kindness May the holiday season fill your hearts with peace and love!

  • 12/30/08--22:00: Tilly D2294 (chan 1428701)
  •  Tilly, the Tillster (Watch my video!) - Oh my gosh, What an adorable little tyke this one is! Once she knows you, she looks at you with her big brown eyes and gives you kisses.  She's simply IRRESISTIBLE !!  She is adorably affectionate, loyal, snuggly, loving, and playful with people.  She's the absolutely perfect dog in terms of energy. She matches her energy level to yours completely. She loves good walks and will relax or nap on your lap.  She will entertaining you by tossing her toys around for hours.  She loves riding in the car and she greets happily.  Tilly is a little discriminating and needs a home with just adults because she bonds completely with her guardians and becomes very protective of her person.  Once she is bonded to you, she will try to protect you against other people and dogs, so you need to be a experienced and kind leader to ensure she is not allowed to protect you.  She also needs a adult home where there are no other cats or dogs or easy going submissive dog.

  • 02/20/09--08:53: Fido Fine Removed! Hooray! (chan 1428701)
  •   Originally osted on our blog on February 20, 2009. After a long and tiring process, the California state budget was passed. Thanks to all the efforts of our humans, the legislature kicked the tax on veterinary services out off the budget! One small step for dogs and cats everywhere in achieving better healthcare for us!

  • 02/25/09--07:25: Sit, Fido, Sit! - The Importance of Training (chan 1428701)
  •   Originally osted on our blog on February 25, 2009. Training your dog will always help strengthen the bond between your family and the dog! It also makes for a more harmonious and happy home and can be done at any age, however it is definitely critical for puppies! Puppies absorb the most in the first 6 months of their lives and training and socializing them is important in that time frame. However despite the age of any dog, training helps give us boundaries and establishes pack order in the home. As much as humans love us furry friends, we are still animals and we don't think the same or interpret signals the same way you do. One of the easiest ways to train is using the “Nothing in Life is Free (NILF)” technique. Dogs instinctively look for their “jobs” in life, many were bred to hunt, keep rats away, guard flocks, herd, etc. However the times have changed and many of us don't have to do these jobs anymore.. this can lead to doing other things, things our humans don't always want us to do, like chewing up their shoes. NILF training requires the dog to complete a task, as simple as sit, before any reward is given. The rewards can be play time, dinner, snacks & treats, etc. The dog must "work" for their rewards, this helps establish you as the leader and the dog can focus on listening to you and knowing that if he or she does listen, a reward is sure to follow! Training and socializing outside the home is just as important as with you and your family. Look into local trainers and dog day cares to see if they offer training. These classes are a great way for your dog to get to know other dogs and be comfortable around strangers and people. If you want more individualized attention look for smaller classes or private sessions, this can help you address any worries or concerns you may have about your dog with the trainer. If you want to take it a step further, I would suggest trying dog sports! Agility, flyball, dock diving are just a few of the dog sports out there. If you're new to the scene, find a trainer who will work step-by-step with you to introduce your dog to dog sports. While it may look like fun and easy, an untrained dog can sometimes injury themselves in a sport. Mom and I just finished our first class in Fly Ball and we found out there was a proper way to turn in that sport and mom had to teach me how to do it.. otherwise I risk hurting my shoulders! Some great resources can be found below: Training Classes: Training at home is great and something you should be doing regularly, however, training classes help dogs adjust to strangers and other dogs. For a list of local trainers click here. Clicker Training - general description Clicker Training.com - by Karen Pryor, she's got some great books out about the subject such as Click for Joy! Books: Before and After Getting Your Puppy by Dr. Ian Dunbar Online resources: http://www.nsalamerica.org/pet_talk/training_dog.html Forums: There are lots of different dog groups online, such as dogster.com and discussdogs.com and even craigslist.org. While these are great resources to get feedback and opinions, remember to be respectful and aware that sometimes you'll have to agree to disagree with other people's opinions and techniques. Your best bet is always to consult a professional trainer or vet. To find a professional trainer near you, try checking with training associations. Here's a few listed below: Association of Animal Behavior Professionals Association of Pet Dog Trainers Certification Council for Pet Dog Trainers Remember: The most important thing is that training should be fun! Treat it as a game and you'll see some amazing results!

  •  California's SB 250 The Pet Responsibility Act Very sad reality, but we can change this! Each year, over $250 million dollars is spent housing and euthanizing homeless dogs and cats in California1. Approximately 1 million dogs and cats enter California's shelters each year, and over half of them (500,000+) are euthanized (killed) simply because there are not enough homes. STOP THE CYCLE! • 05/04/09--22:00: Kali 03-3542 (chan 1428701)
  •  Kali is a beautiful medium dilute torti who has the tortitude to match. She can be a sweet girl who loves to lick your toes, especially while your trying to sleep. She doesn't like to cuddle all the time but likes to be petted. Enjoys playing with the other cats of the house, and will tolerate mellow dogs. She doesn't like to be groomed so will probably need to go to a professional groomer or vet for nail clippings and regular grooming's to prevent matting of her coat. Her brother Kirbee and their mom, Brooke are also available for adoption as well.

  • 05/04/09--22:00: Kirbee 03-3545 (chan 1428701)
  •  Kirbee is a handsome black and white tuxedo. He is a true sweetheart and loves to be petted. He loves to greet you every morning to remind you to feed him. He enjoys the company of other cats and cat friendly mellow dogs. He enjoys playing with his feather toys too. He does like to play in water dishes too which can get quite messy so the bowl needs to be cleaned often and replaced as well as keeping your floor dry underneath to prevent damage. Also the toilet seat must be kept down so that doesn't become a toy too. His sister, Kali and mother, Brooke are also available for adopted as well.

  • 07/09/09--11:14: URGENT! LAST HEARINGS for SB 250 and AB 241. (chan 1428701)
  •   SB 250 - The Final Hearing! What is SB 250? -This copy taken from SCIL (Social Compassion in Legistration) SB 250 will be heard in the Assembly Appropriations Committee on Wednesday, July 15th, in room 4202 at 9:00 am in Sacramento. This is the final hearing - please come to the hearing if you can! We need your help getting through this final committee. Please call the committee members from now until next Tuesday night. Dog & cat breeders and other animal industry lobbyists (CA Cattlemen's Association, CA Farm Bureau Federation, etc.) are out in force trying to kill both SB 250 and AB 241. Don't let them do it!! This is tough work for all of us. But the payoff will be a huge step for animal welfare in our state and will be reflected across the nation. The animals need us! Phone numbers you can call and more information is listed here. Please take action for our animals!

  • 07/17/09--10:55: SUCCESS! AB 241 Passes Committee. (chan 1428701)
  •   Here is the letter from President, Social Compassion in Legislation (SCIL). Dear Supporters: Success! AB 241, Assemblymember Pedro Nava's anti puppy mill legislation, won its vote in the Senate Public Safety Committee this morning! Senators Mark Leno, Gil Cedillo, Loni Hancock and Darrell Steinberg all voted YES. The Senators listened to the hundreds of animal lovers who called and faxed in support of this good bill. And congratulations Assemblymember Nava! Thank you for representing the vast majority of Californians who see pets as friends, not products. AB 241 will next be heard in August in the Senate Appropriations Committee. We will alert you when the time comes. Now, a more personal note. This has been a crazy week in Sacramento. AB 241 has passed Committee, while Senator Florez decided to wait until August to move SB 250 forward. Thanks so much to everyone who has called, faxed and traveled to help our pets live better lives. Once AB 241 becomes law, no one in California will be able to keep more than 50 unaltered dogs. While that may seem like a lot, in reality many puppy mills keep 500 or more unaltered dogs at one time. All too often the puppy mill breeder dogs spend their life in tiny cages, and sometimes never touch the ground for their entire life. The awful treatment of dogs in puppy mills is a direct result of the profit mentality of underground animal breeders, whether they have 5 breeder dogs or 500. They believe it is their right to breed and sell animals without any government oversight. And ironically, backyard breeders (and the groups representing them) complained all through 2007 and 2008 that legislation targeting underground breeding was misplaced and should focus only on puppy mills... but now it's those same people loudly complaining about AB 241! They now oppose ANY legislation designed to help pets, a knee-jerk reaction based on a collective paranoia that sees a conspiracy to take away breeding rights and pets behind every piece of pet legislation. If this all sounds like hyperbole just for effect, I wish it was. The number of people living off the income of their underground, backyard breeding in California is truly staggering. Before we started doing research into this a few years ago, the scope of this problem, and the millions of tax dollars stolen from our state by these people, just wasn't understood. But now, thankfully, our Legislators are starting to notice. In fact, the California Board of Equalization is now also starting to take an interest in underground breeding. The BOE is beginning to contact breeders to determine their status and see if they are paying their taxes. That's GOOD NEWS! And the breeder response? Are they stepping up, being honest citizens by finally following current breeding laws and paying taxes? Nope. They are instead frantically pulling all references to individual breeders down from breeder websites and AKC lists, in an attempt to go further underground. Shameless. The honest truth is that backyard breeders, and the hypocritical organized groups making money from their donations while pretending to care about pets, see animals as a tax-free paycheck. It's income that is easily hidden from the Government, even though current law states that anyone selling animals needs to pay sales tax and claim the income. This week Sacramento was overrun with hundreds of backyard breeders, gathering to oppose SB 250 and AB 241. It was quite a sight. Unlike you, they have plenty of time to travel to the Capital, because their day job is sitting in their house tending to puppies while waiting for the females to come into heat again. Those puppies sell for hundreds (or thousands) of dollars each, tax-free. This is a career, their tax-free livelihood, period, and they will never support truly pet-friendly legislation, because they fear that it will cost them money. It's just that simple, and it was in full display this week in Sacramento. Thank you for keeping up the fight to help pets. They need our voice! Thank you for being honest taxpayers. Thank you for treating your pets with respect, and rescuing pets instead of purchasing them. And thank you for helping stop cruel puppy mills in California! We are making a difference together in our great state. Warm regards, Judie Mancuso President, Social Compassion In Legislation (SCIL) A 501(c)(4) non-profit organization focused on reducing pet overpopulation through legislation. www.YESonAB241.com www.YESonSB250.com

  • 09/01/09--10:59: SB 250 Final Round of Calls Needed! (chan 1428701)
  •   Here is the letter from President, Social Compassion in Legislation (SCIL). Dear Friends: In my last email to you, I promised to contact you with more information about when to contact Assembly members in your area to voice your support of SB 250. The time is here! The bill will be heard in the full Assembly sometime before September 10, and then will be sent to the Senate for a concurrence vote. So, we need your calls today! I know that the bill is moving fast and that phone calls seem like they are constantly required, but THIS IS IT. After September 10, the bill is either on it's way to the Governor's desk, or dead. A simple, quick phone call NOW will help SB 250 reach the finish line! To help make calls easier, we are introducing our new SB 250 Automatic Phone Caller! Just enter your zip code and the tool directs you to the most critical Legislators in your area. Click here now to use the tool! See Why are we being asked to make so many phone calls?! Without your previous phone calls, we NEVER would have gotten this far. This is hard work for every volunteer out there, but your quick phone calls today are absolutely critical for this bill. THANK YOU! Thank you so much for your support and for caring about pets in California. My deepest appreciation, Judie Judie Mancuso President, Social Compassion In Legislation (SCIL) A 501(c)(4) non-profit organization focused on reducing pet overpopulation through legislation.

  • 09/30/09--12:24: AB 241 needs your call to the Governor (chan 1428701)
  •  Here's letter from SCIL. Let's call governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and make this happen! AB 241, Assemblymember Pedro Nava's the Responsible Breeder Act, co-sponsored by SCIL, is currently sitting on Governor Schwarzenegger's desk, awaiting his signature. This is a hopeful time in California for those of us concerned with mistreatment of pets, and it is your phone calls and letters that helped AB 241 come this far: If the Governor signs AB 241, it will become law on Jan 1, 2010, and the number of large puppy / pet mills in California will be dramatically reduced. If he vetoes it, we must start the entire process again next year, and the suffering of these innocent animals is prolonged. We urge you to call the Governor and let him know how important this bill is to you. Legislation limiting the number of dogs in puppy mills has already passed in Louisiana, Virginia, Oregon and Washington. It is time for California to join them. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger Phone: 916-445-2841 When you call the Governor's office, you are offered the option to simply press a key to indicate your support of AB 241, but we recommend speaking with a live operator if possible to make sure your voice is heard. My sincere thanks for your help, Judie Judie Mancuso President, Social Compassion In Legislation (SCIL) A 501(c)(4) non-profit organization focused on reducing pet overpopulation through legislation.

  • 11/12/09--22:00: Phoebe D2614 (chan 1428701)
  •  Phoebe (watch my video!) was rescued on 11/12/09 from Tri-City Animal Shelter.  She is friendly to women, but was nervous and fearful of men and kids.  At her foster home, she learned she was safe and now friendly with men she meets, but she now she is trying to be the top dog in the household even to her guardian.  She will stand and beg for treats.  She is leary of fast movement and may nip.  She will play with dogs but she is a mighty dog at heart and a bit alpha.  No cats (will chase).  August, 2010: Phoebe is responding well to training to correct her Alpha behavior. She no longer fears males and is friendly and anxious to meet new people. She does not resist or object to handling or having her paws checked by someone she knows. She has done well in her socializing sessions with other dogs. She is responsive to conversation and should be talked to regularly to help improve bonding. She will do her best in a home with an adult that is experienced with dog handling and discipline. No kids.

  • 11/23/09--22:00: Ashley D2604 (chan 1428701)
  •  Ashley was found on the streets looking for a friend.  She spent a week at the Tri City Animal Shelter until FFR rescued her.  It was apparent that she was injured and a vet diagnosed her with having torn ligaments in both knees.  She went into a foster home and began her road to recovery.  She was under the care of   Veterinary Surgical Associates (VSA), Dublin and they did successful surgeries on both knees. They expected a full recovery and she's now romping around on the trail with her doggie buddies regularly.Ashley is a very friendly and loving dog with a wonderful temperment.  She loves to cuddle and is great with other dogs.  She is very affectionate and sweet and a joy to be around.  She is playful, likes to play with chew toys and chase an occasional ball. She is kennel trained so she very comfortable resting, sleeping and spending time in there.  She loves to be with her human companions.  She would do best in a home without young children.

  • 12/05/09--22:00: Marcus 10-3621 (chan 1428701)
  •  Marcus is a very friendly and charming guy. However, as is the case with many handsome cats, he doles out affection on his own terms. Although he doesn't appreciate being picked up and held, he does enjoy hanging out with people and getting attention. Anyone interested in adopting him will probably have to be patient as he develops his own brand of affection. Marcus was found as a very small kitten living in a feral colony. Before it was too late, he was socialized to live as a loving companion cat. Affection just needs to be his idea and on his schedule. But it will be worth the wait.

  • 01/06/10--22:00: Kellie D2568 (chan 1428701)
  •  Kellie (Elkhound / Chow Chow mix) was rescued on 1/5/10 from a shelter (Watch my video!). She is friendly and a true sweet-heart. Wise and spunky. She was great with other dogs at the shelter and dog boarding facility, but once she settled in, she will bark at other dogs on walks.  Need guardian to correct her for leash reactiveness to other dogs.  She doesn't like bouncy active dogs jumping into her face.   She is a mellow sr. dog who is gentle and wants  to bond to her person for life. Great at her foster home with everyone. Her two teenage foster boys adore her. She's people affectionate, easy on the leash, loves treats, follows you around and cooperative.  Rides in the car well.  Easy to walk.  Speaks for treats!  Very cuddly. Good girl and good with kids at her foster home.  Sweet-heart! But no cats please.  Best as the only dog at home. Kellie needs sponsorship to cover her surgery of her fatty tumor removal (chest & left knee area) Sugery will cost over $1000 due to the complexity of the surgery. UPDATE: Her 1 lb fatty tumor was removed from her chest, and already healed. She is doing great. A youngster again.  :)

  • 03/14/10--22:00: Ivan D2436 (was D2570 (chan 1428701)
  •  Ivan was rescued on 3/14/10 from a crowded shelter. He was neglected, scared and in horrible condition.  He was suffering from demodex mange. After months of vet care and TLC from his foster home, he recovered and beat most of the mange.  He is friendly, sweet and good with other dogs.  He is a litte timid of new situations and people.  When he looks for comfort, he likes sitting on our shoes, snuggling and enjoys being held.  He is good on leash and well behaved.  He needs to stay on holistic healthy foods to maintain his health.  He's a love.  Kids 12 yrs+.

  • 03/14/10--22:00: Nigel 07-2002 (chan 1428701)
  •  Nigel  07-2002, DOB 5/2004. Nigel and his brother, Quincy, are very friendly and playful, and they enjoy being handled. Since they are attached to one another, it would be ideal for them to find a home together. They currently live with 3 big dogs and a newborn baby. Their guardians would like to see them get a new home that can devote more attention to them. Anyone interested in adopting the two together will have the pleasure of watching the brothers snuggle with each other at nap time and then chase each other during play time. They would make a great addition for any individual or family looking to provide a good home to two great adult cats.

  •  JP needs a new home because his guardian passed away.  He came to us on 6/11/10.  He has lived with other dogs and good with them.  NO CATS.  He is very friendly (social butterfly) and lovable little guy who loves long walks and wants to be your buddy for life.  He loves to snuggle and give you kisses.  He is moderate active.  Middle age for his size.  He's a great doggie with a happy attitude.  Kids 10 yrs+.  He had a dental with a couple of infected tooths extracted.  Now he feels great.

  • 04/07/10--22:00: Amy 06-3589 (chan 1428701)
  •  Amy is a beautiful cat with a beautiful personality to match. No compromises here, if you're looking for a cat who is nice on the inside and out. She was recently returned when her family could no longer care for her. But Amy quickly settled in to her original foster home in hopes of finding a permanent one. She's very affectionate and interactive. She'll jump into your arms and onto your shoulder. She also likes to sleep on your lap or next to you in bed. Amy is not only playful with people, but she also likes other cats. She would make an excellent feline companion for an individual or family, and she would be most grateful for the opportunity and attention.

  • 04/23/10--22:00: Chavez D2505 (chan 1428701)
  •  Chavez and his buddy, Willie were rescued on 4/15/10. He was badly neglected and required grooming/shave down and dental. He is friendly and good with other dogs. A little timid but has warms up quickly. He has grade 4 out of 5 heart murmur but he is fine. Lovable. Scared of fast movements so not best match for family with young kids.

  •  Bruno was dumped at a local veterinarian when he was 6 weeks old.  He was adopted by his foster home in 2010 but a busy household with now two kids under the age of 3 is proving too stressful for Bruno.  He is good with other dogs and cats.  Has learned to use doggie door at his foster home.  He is a perfect sweetie and friendly with everyone.  He does need basic training. Kids 14 and up.

  • 06/01/10--22:00: Katy 04-3638 (chan 1428701)
  •  Hi, I'm Katy, a tortie short hair domestic cat. I was taken in from the Tricity Animal shleter along with my 4 kittens on 7 April 2010. I'm a very friendly and inquisitive cat. Though I don't enjoy sitting on your lap, I love to sit near by and rub against you. Gazing out of the window is my favorite job. I adore my kitten Konnar, love to play with him and run around after him. I also like to catch dangling feathers and soft balls. Could you please be adopt me along with my son Konnar. Submit the adoption form for her online and come meet her at the  Showcase.

  • 06/02/10--22:00: Konnar 04-3641 (chan 1428701)
  •  Hi, I'm Konnar (watch my video!). I was brought in, with my Mom Katy and siblings- kevin, krissy and kirsten, from the Tricity Fremont shelter, a week after my birth. I love playing with balls and dangling objects. All I want is to have fun and snuggle up in your lap for a quick nap. I'm very curious and want to investigate corners. I enjoy myself by running around my mom and play fight with her. Please adopt me with my Mom Katy. He is available for adoption now! Please fill out our "on-line cat application" from our "How to Adopt" page.

  • 06/19/10--22:00: Hal 05-3648 (chan 1428701)
  •  Hal ( DOB 4/25/10 )- Hal (watch my video!) and his brothers, Hank and Henry, were rescued along with their mother from a local shelter when they were only a week and a half. Hal is a mama's boy in that he would much prefer to have you hold him than navigate the unknown world by himself. So he just cuddles up and gives you a few choice words to make sure that you won't put him down. Otherwise, he loves to run, jump, and play with his brothers and also with his mother's tail. His mother, Henrietta, would like to know that her sons are being placed in a secure home, since they were almost put to sleep before they ever had a chance to open their eyes. But now Hal and his band of brothers are safe, healthy, and active, and looking for permanent homes.

  • 06/19/10--22:00: Henry 05-3650 (chan 1428701)
  •  Henry (DOB 4/25/10) - Henry (watch my video!) and his brothers, Hal and Hank, were rescued along with their mother from a local shelter when they were only a week and a half. Henry walks a good balanced line between independence and human chest and lap curl up time. He's a fun loving kitten who knows when it's time to seek out the comfort and love of his humans. His mother, Henrietta, would like to know that her sons are being placed in a secure home, since they were almost put to sleep before they ever had a chance to open their eyes. But now Henry and his band of brothers are safe, healthy, and active, and are looking for permanent homes.

  • 08/14/10--22:00: Bella (chan 1428701)
  •  I am in urgent need of finding a foster or home for my 3 year old American Bulldog/Pitbull, Bella. I have been working with Patrick Bohler from SCRRAP (Sonoma County Residents Responsible About Pitbulls) in northern California to try to find a foster home to rehabilitate my dog, Bella, but they do not have any available fosters or extra fundings. I have absolutely exhausted every resource I know of over the past year and am emotionally drained. Some History...I rescued Bella almost 2 years ago from a shelter in southern California. A main motivator behind adopting a dog was to help me with my anxiety, but unfortunately, it has mostly increased since getting Bella. I tried to give Bella the best care she deserved and have provided her with exercise, discipline and all the affection I have to give, but unfortunately, about 1 year ago Bella developed fear anxiety around people. The only organization that has really worked with me is SCRRAP but as I mentioned, they have no available fosters at this time. I am looking for a foster or adoptive home that would be capable of caring for and rehabilitating Bella. I firmly believe in rehabilitation, for both owner and dog, but I simply am not capable now - financially, emotionally, or time-wise - to help Bella. I have invested an insurmountable amount of time and money -- more than I have had as a full-time student and part time worker -- into working with Bella, looking for and meeting with trainers, and providing her with the absolute best medical care possible. From local trainers, to National Geographic's Cesar Millan (who never responded to me), I have hit one brick wall after the other.Bella is just a joy to be around when she's in comfortable settings and is an extremely devoted and intelligent dog. My vet hospital has been wonderful with her, and seen first hand and worked with her fear of strangers. She now goes there and instead of having to muzzle her, she gives kisses and wags her tail. I love this dog so very much and truly have done everything I could possibly do to try to keep her and work with her on her fear anxiety of strangers. I KNOW she has all the potential in the world (as I have seen her go from fearing someone to being comfortable with them) and am still hopeful I will find a home that will be better able to provide her with the structure and training she needs. In the mean time, I will never give up on her, continue taking each day as it comes, and love her with all my heart.  If interested in Bella please contact her guardian: jrgimeno86@gmail.com

  • 08/21/10--22:00: Melissa 08-3699 (chan 1428701)
  •  Melissa (watch my video!) is friendly and sweet and an expert at purring, cuddling, PLAYING, sitting on laps, sleeping in beds -- all of the good kitten stuff. She never has a bad day, and can cheer up anyone (cat or human) with her kind concern, and crazy antics. Melissa was rescued when she was on the short list at an overcrowded shelter.

  • 08/31/10--22:00: Sheba D2437 (chan 1428701)
  •  Sheba ran out of time and we rescued on 10/9/10 from the shelter.  She is super friendly and great with everyone, and other dogs.  She walks beautifully on leash, she knows some commands and is very obedient. She is very affectionate and will give you kisses.  She has an endless supply of love and smiles!  She is a wonderfully sweet and is eager to learn.  She prefers someone around more or doggie day care if need since she may bark when home alone. At doggie day care, she is great with all dogs.   She would make a great "Therapy Dog" since she is so sweet with everyone. Kids 10 yrs+. She LOVES laying in the sun. Needs some work on her crate training.

  • 10/12/10--09:46: K-9 dogs strut stuff at Furry Friends picnic (chan 1428701)
  •  A 'Woofstock' event is held in Fremont's Central Park. By Rob Dennis Fremont Argus Posted: 10/08/2010 11:00:00 PM PDT Updated: 10/11/2010 09:59:35 AM PDT FREMONT -- Rocket was a day from being euthanized when Dave Dorn found him nearly six years ago in a Bay Area shelter. Today, the 9-year-old yellow Labrador is enjoying his retirement after a career as the top narcotics detection dog in the western U.S. The hyperactivity that makes dogs like Rocket so difficult to handle as household pets often makes them perfect for law enforcement work as drug- and bomb-sniffing dogs, Dorn said. "Most of the time, these dogs don't make good pets for homes," Dorn said. "They just always keep going, keep going, keep going. ... He was a rocket, man. That's how he gets the name. He (nearly) escaped from me three times." Rocket demonstrated that get-up-and-go along with his drug-sniffing prowess Saturday during Furry Friends Rescue's Tail Waggin' Walk and Picnic, dubbed "Woofstock." The event, held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Fremont's Central Park, raised money for Furry Friends and the Tri-City and Hayward animal shelters. Furry Friends, an all-volunteer nonprofit companion animal rescue organization based in Fremont, has saved more than 12,000 animals since 1998. The day kicked off with a 3K walk and included music, a vegetarian lunch, raffles and a silent auction. Dog show contests included Best Talent, Coolest Hippie, Prettiest Flower Child, Best Speak, Unique Mix and (of course) Howl-loween Costume. Rocket and another of Dorn's dogs, an 8-year-old black Lab named Storm who specializes in bomb detection, strutted their stuff at noon, walking down a line of plastic tubs and orange cones and then pouncing on the one with the suspicious odor. Rocket, in character, pawed frantically at the tub, flipping it over and popping the top off. Storm proceeded in a more sedate fashion. "She's a little slower because she does explosives, and we don't want her knocking over the bomb," Dorn said. Dorn, a sergeant with the San Francisco Sheriff's Department, has been around dogs his entire life. He has been a police officer since 1994 and has been supervising and training the department's Canine Unit for 12 years. Through their company K-9 STAC, or Specialized Training and Consulting, he and his wife Kerry have found, trained and placed about 30 dogs into law enforcement agencies throughout California. If a dog has the right stuff, it takes about five weeks to train it to detect odors and conduct searches, and another four weeks to get it working with its police handler. "I'll take a three-legged dog, I'll take a beagle, I'll take 10 Chihuahuas," Dorn said. "If you have the right drives to make it, you're in with me." • 11/05/10--22:00: Staci (chan 1428701)
  •  Staci is about 9 years old, adopted from a shelter. I have a small apartment and unable to keep her happy here. She is spayed, and has all shots up to date. Staci is a very friendly dog, and would be good with older children and one or two dogs her size. She plays very well with others at the dog park.  She is overall a very mellow dog, she is always just happy to get out of the house. She weighs about 85 pounds and very healthy. She runs like a gazelle! She loves the park, going for walks, and going for rides. She likes to get attention and will greet you everyday without fail. She knows how to sit, lie down, and shake. The words "park," "walk," "treat,' and "ride" will make her ears perk up and get her overly excited, so you better deliver if you mention these words! :) She is potty trained, and will "go to her room" when you want her to go to her bed. She likes to look out the window when she is by herself. She is perfect in the house but keep in mind she is a big dog and needs adequate space to run around. She is not good around tiny dogs or cats. We are helping Staci's Guardian find her a new home. Please contact: stacylge@gmail.com  We would ask for $100 donation to Furry Friends Rescue upon adoption.

  • 03/02/11--22:00: Darrell 02-3738 (chan 1428701)
  •  Has anyone ever told you that orange tabby males make the best cats around?  Well, it's because of cats like Darrell that people think so.  Armed with a loving and social personality, Darrell just fills your life with companionship and smiles.  There are three things he's hoping to get in his own life: namely, love, pets, and food--and pretty much in that order.  Darrell has tested positive for FIV.  However, such cats that are well-cared for and kept indoors can live long and healthy lives, just like any other cat.  His recent exam showed no condition or illness, whether related to FIV or otherwise.  He became a favorite at a local shelter after someone left him in a night drop box.  Whatever the reasons his former family didn't keep him, none could have anything to do with how great a big orange dude he is.  And after everything, he deserves a loving and permanent home.

  • 03/18/11--22:00: Petey D2657 (chan 1428701)
  •  Petey was rescued on 3/18/11. He is adorable, friendly, and very sweet. Good with other dogs and cats.   Now that Petey is 9+ months old he has become a very confident and affectionate little boy. He is easily accepted by other dogs because he is so submissive and playful. He likes to chase and be chased and loves to play with toys. He uses a dog door and is housebroken. He sleeps in a portable kennel in foster home bedroom at night and sometimes just on the large dog bed with one or two other dogs. He stays with the pack in close proximity at the park and is pretty good with responding to being called but must be on a leash if walking on sidewalks in residential areas. He is very smart and learns very easily when it comes to routines and behaviors that are rewarded with treats and affection. He is just such a loveable boy.

  • 03/30/11--22:00: Buddy 03-3739 (chan 1428701)
  •  Buddy is the typical kitten and is quite the purrer. Playful and curious, loves to chase his toy balls around and under furniture. Buddy can be seen at the Petco in Fremont on the weekends.

  • 05/15/11--22:00: Nani D2677 (chan 1428701)
  •  Nani was rescued on 5/20/11 from the shelter.  She will need time with her wonderful foster home to train, socialize and build up her confidence in people again.  Loves foster home's dog.  Nani was scared at the shelter, but once out of her cage, she starts to feel more comfortable and friendly.  Shelter staff fell in love her and asked us to save her. She was terrified when she was abandoned at the shelter, but in a few days, she was feeling safe and adjusted. Outside, she is playful, loveable, curious pup that lacks confidence but makes connections with people easily. She perks up when with another dog and she just blossoms. Nani loves frolicking and play bows to other dogs.  Needs basic training & socializing.  Nani is gentle and a sweetie.

  •  Frankie came into FFR on 6/8/11 for our help to find her a new adoption home.  Frankie is a very special dog.  She comes from an abusive past and has flourished despite her past treatment.  She is very curious yet cautious at new experiences.  She has not had much exposure to normal home activity, such as taking out the garbage and doing dishes.  Everything seems new and she is happy to experience them.  She is learning to play with toys and how to go to bed in her crate.  She is very smart and runs when she knows it’s time to do something she doesn’t want to do, so we are working on that.  She needs a little work on and her leash manners, she is learning to walk very nicely on leash and to walk past dogs without pulling, but will need continued training.  Frankie hasn’t had a lot of attention in her short life, so she is very reluctant to let you stop petting her.  She is excellent with the house cat and has learned to leave the small dog alone.  Frankie needs an experienced and loving guardian who is looking to give a really special girl who has had a pretty rough life a home to call her own. **If you can't give her a home, but can donate to help with her care and training, we can use any amount.  Please be sure to note that your donation is for Frankie.

  • 06/09/11--22:00: Jerry 05-3172 (chan 1428701)
  •  Jerry was adopted as a kitten in 2006, but now returning to us due to move.  He did live indoor in a home with another cat and prefer spending time with the other cat. Jerry is an handsome gentleman. Very friendly and sweet. Maybe he will be a little bit shy in the very beginning but when he gets to know you, he will meow a lot and share his day with you. He doesn't like to be hold or grabbed, but he loves to be rub/use his head to rub your legs and will show his belly occasionally. He is also a purr machine. He will come to you if you call his name few times, very smart and lovely boy. He will enjoy to live with other cats with a proper introduction.

  • 07/16/11--22:00: Colter D2709 (chan 1428701)
  •  Colter was rescued on 7/20/11 from Los Banos Shelter when he was on PTS list.  When he first arrived and at our vet office/boarding, he was passive and didn't know how to walk on a leash. He is friendly with people and loves treats.  Update:  Colter is now living in a home and is doing great.  He is ignores the cat and the small dog.  He loves to play, play, play with 2 resident Pits in the house.  He jumps into all new experiences with joy and excitement.  He listens really well to corrections and is still learning household manners.  He is great on walks and has great leash manners.  He just saw his first Christmas tree and loves to hit the branches and make them bounce.  He is housetrained and knows some basic manners, like sit and down.  He loves to snuggle on the couch or sprawl on his dog bed on the floor.  He does need someone with some dog experience, but would make a great dog for someone who is new to the breed and would love be a first time Pit owner.  Give Colter a forever home just in time for Christmas, come meet him at our showcase and fall in love with this sweet, clumsy pup who just wants to be loved and love you in return.   Check out my facebook page to see more photos and to find out what I'm up to. http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003267390357

  • 08/09/11--22:00: Nikki 07-3803 (chan 1428701)
  •  Zoe(07-3802) and Nikki (07-3803) are mama cats (sisters) that were dumped in a field along with their 4 week kittens.  They are just 7 to 8 months old themselves. They have sweet disposition, they love to "meow" back to you.

  • 08/15/11--22:00: Pooty 08-3810 (chan 1428701)
  •  Pooty & Moochie were rescued on 8/16/11.  Both he and his brother, Pooty, suffered severe eye infections, forcing the removal of their left eyes.  By the time we rescued them, it was too late to save their eyes.  They went into emergency surgery at VCA Mission SJ, and they did a remarkable job.  While Moochie likes to explore, Pooty is perfectly content to spend hours on your chest or lap. Although they look like little pirates, their "stolen booty" is merely your love, devotion, and assurance that their troubled days are over. As Moochie and Pooty say, "Arr, matey . . . infection took me eye, but not me love for life and ye. . . arr." Moochie and Pooty will be showcasing every Saturday and Sunday at the Fremont Petco from 1-4.

  • 08/17/11--22:00: Puck 08-3812 (chan 1428701)
  •  Puck 08-3812 Puck along with Phebe, Moochie and Pooty were rescued from a less than wonderful backyard situation. They found themselves swept up, in the vet office and then in their new foster's home. Puck is a very streaking grey and white Classic tabby. She is super friendly with a purr motor that does not turn off. Puck will rub herself around her human's staff face over and over and over until she is sure that she has laid claim to whoever she wants. Puck is loving the new toys, cat tree and all the 24/7 food that she now has access to. Puck would do great in a new forever home where her activity level is appreciated and her playfulness is an asset. Is that your home? Are you looking for a high energy kitten? That would be Puck.

  • 08/28/11--22:00: Tomas 07-3807 (chan 1428701)
  •  Hi, my name is Tomas. I had a slow start. But once my foster mom gave me antibiotics, I felt so much better. I got fatter, and now I run and wrestle. I like to play with hands, but my foster mom is trying to break me of this habit. Also, don't bend over in front of me, because I enjoy jumping onto your back (hee, hee, ha, ha). I like playing with my siblings a lot. I can be nice to Trina. She likes me.

  • 08/28/11--22:00: Tay 07-3806 (chan 1428701)
  •  Hi, my name is Tay. I like to wrestle and play with my siblings. Trina doesn't like the way I play with her. She is a big cry baby, but that's no problem for me. I'm a very happy kitty, and I run and jump all over the place. I'm a little cross-eyed, so I look at things differently. But that doesn't slow me down at all. I'm a big eater, and I like food.

  • 08/30/11--22:00: Oscar 06-3792 (chan 1428701)
  •  Oscar 06-3792 ( DOB 5/5/2011 ) was found in a dumpster when he was just three days old. With round the clock feedings and TLC he has become a healthy frisky kitten. Growing up without siblings Oscar can get a little carried away when playing with people so he cannot be placed with young children. He is good with cats and cat-friendly dogs of all sizes.

  • 08/31/11--22:00: Alex (chan 1428701)
  •  Alex is incredibly sweet....not a mean bone in him. A little shy at first, but if he likes you, he really likes you. At his foster family's house, he loves his people. Alex runs right to his foster dad and sleeps in his arms while "dad" is watching TV. He eats well and is not fussy. He sleeps in his own bed, but will climb in with you if you let him. He is quiet and not a barker, though will bark when he is very concerned about something, but only once or twice. If you are interested in Alex, please email darlena444@aol.com.

  • 09/01/11--22:00: Cora D2711 (chan 1428701)
  •  Cora is a sweet girl, very active. Some puppy mouthing, but corrects really well. She is very playful with other dogs both big and small. She got a little pushy with one dog, but listened to corrections really well. She came when I called her in the middle of play and sat for a treat. Very attentive and cuddly. Will need an experienced dog person to set rules. New picture and more information to come!

  • 09/10/11--22:00: Seamus 08-3827 (chan 1428701)
  •  Top of the day to you. My name is Seamus (DOB 5/3/11). Boy, I like people. And I like being held. Of course, my favorite thing is to jump onto your shoulder and nuzzle your hair. I'm not quite sure why. But it beats being alone and unloved. I love life, and I just gotta show it. If you want a cat that's more outgoing and interactive, then you might want to consider me. I mean, I'm not saying that you have to choose me. But you might not regret anything if you do. You know . . . just saying. You can meet me and my siblings, Isobel (what a dish) and Patrick (what a ham) every Saturday and Sunday at the Fremont Petco from 1-4. Maybe I'll see you there. Not that you have to or anything.

  • 10/27/11--22:00: Vellie (chan 1428701)
  •  Vellie, the velcro girl and extreme athlete, came to stay with me a few months ago. She won my heart immediately with her vivacious and affectionate personality. Her early history is unknown, other than she was rescued early 2011 and lived in a cage most of that time. The vet estimated her age to be between 2-3 years old. She's very social, very demanding of attention and she loves EVERYONE. She would make a great companion for someone with older children or anyone who is willing to give her lots of attention. She is very active which is why I describe her as an extreme athlete. She literally bounces off walls and furniture so she needs to be in a home that will allow for her high octane raceway behavior. She gets along with other cats, but has become territorial around me...she doesn't like to share so a home with one other cat would be good as long as she gets plenty of attention. She's a sweet bug who snuggles with me when I watch TV and she loves to sleep on the bed. She has been provided medical care, spay, basic shots, de-wormed and flea treatment. If you are interested, please contact fanizzoj@hotmail.com

  • 11/07/11--22:00: Stella D2740 (chan 1428701)
  •  Stella was rescued on 11/7/11 from a crowded shelter where she was out of time.  She is a middle age sr. sweetie.  Good with other dogs.  No cats (she will bark & try to chase). Friendly and gentle.  She was badly matted & dirty at the shelter.  Update from foster home: She's a silly, playful fun dog who loves to go for walks, and is great with other dogs.  She tries to be the alpha, so needs leadership.  She also loves laps and gives lots of kisses.  Her activity level is moderate.  Loves to play with toys, but not hyper in anyway. She does try to climb up on anything she can get to- desks, tables, etc. and she can jump very well. Hard to believe she is 10 yrs young.  We will get a 2nd vet to age her.  She looks about 8 yrs to us.   She is very curious and spunky at home.  Look how cute she is after her grooming.

  • 11/10/11--22:00: Danny - G/A (chan 1428701)
  •  These Daschund (mix) puppies were born to a rescued dog being fostered.   They were weaned at 6 weeks and got their shots, de-wormed and had their exams already.  They are now available for adoption into wonderful, forever homes.  All children must be over 8 years of age due to the small size of these puppies. They are all very loving and playful and even appear to be potty trained. Please contact Darlena at Darlena444@aol.com to get information or fill out application for adoption if you are a good match for these precious babies. Application: http://furryfriendsrescue.org/adopt/dog

  • 11/14/11--22:00: Corey D02761 (chan 1428701)
  •  My name is COREY. Rescued on 12/8/11 from a over-crowded shelter. He is friendly and very sweet. New photo and more info. to come.

  • 11/15/11--22:00: Abbie (chan 1428701)
  •  She is about 2 years old and incredibly sweet.  Not a mean bone in either Abbie or Alex... Abbie loves everyone..... Alex (http://furryfriendsrescue.org/find_a_pet/view/16767) is a little shy and seems to prefer older men... They are not particularly bonded but could go together for company.   They are not real playful dogs so probably not good for children.... perhaps better as adult companion dogs..... If you are interested in Abbie, please email darlena444@aol.com.

  • 11/29/11--22:00: Louie D2755 (chan 1428701)

  • 01/18/12--22:00: Sassy 05-2502 (chan 1428701)
  •    Sassy was adopted from FFR in 2005 as a kitten, but came back to FFR.  She was found abandoned in the cold streets by a kind citizen who rushed her listless body to emergency for dehydration and malnutrition.   Thru her ID chip, the shelter was able to contact us.  She was starved (skin & bones), bruised and dirty from trying to survive in the cold streets with no food or water. Within the week, with warmth, vet care, food and grooming, she is now recovering and eating lots of food!  She loves food!  She is timid at first, but once she is comfortable (within a few minutes), she loves being petted and purrs.  Sassy is a sweet kitty with a gentle heart.  She needs a warm home and TLC.  More info as we learn about her.

  • 01/20/12--22:00: Bishop D2771 (chan 1428701)
  •    Bishop is very friendly, sweet and playful.  Curious and a little nervous of new environment.  Will bark for attention & needs to learn to settle. May need someone home more or gone for short hours.  He can stand up on his rear legs and walk around to look at something or for a treat.  We'll get a video!  So cute. Great with other dogs.  Was curious of vet office cat.  Needs training. He is very matted.  New groomed make-over photo soon.  More info. to come.

  • 01/24/12--22:00: Mia 01-3839 (chan 1428701)
  •  Mia (dob 9/11/11) is a tortie kitten who had a rough beginning. She was found hiding underneath a bench outside of a Veterinary Clinic in Fremont. After being rescued, Mia began to see that the world wasn't so bad after all. Mia loves playing with her mice toys as well as any pens or toilet paper rolls that are given to her. Mia enjoys being rubbed under her chin and chest. Mia is still learning about other animals and has been fostered in 2 homes with other dogs and cats. Mia is still afraid of unfamiliar sounds such as loud noises, so she would be best in a home with adults. If you are looking for a sweet kitty who got a second chance at living a great life, please let her have that chance with you.

  • 02/03/12--22:00: Max (chan 1428701)
  •  Toby and Max need new homes urgently because their owner died. They are sociable with man and dog alike. Wonderful companions and well behaved. Pleasingly plump but with plenty of energy for walks and hanging out at dog parks. They are now on special food and getting extra walks so should start losing weight. They need a new home which will continue them on the road to good weight. They don't bark, and are playful with each other like typical brothers. They are obedient, and devoted to family.  After spending their lives with my mother, who has just passed away, they have readily adapted to me and my busy family. Now I must go back to my home in Texas, and they need a loving and lucky home. My mother wished for them to stay together if possible, but they are adaptable and love any kind soul. Furry Friends Rescue is helping this family to re-home these dogs. If you are interested in either fostering or adopting please fill out the online application: http://furryfriendsrescue.org/adopt/dog We only ask $100 donation to Furry Friends Rescue for adoption. If you have any ideas for re-homing these dogs please contact tldowneyFFR@gmail.com

  • 02/16/12--22:00: Trina D2826 (chan 1428701)
  •  Trina was rescued from an over-crowded shelter. She was nervous at the shelter. Out with our volunteers, she was timid at first but then warmed up, especially in the presence of another dog, Marsha. She likes to be carried and very sweet. Adorable. She is skin & bones, and needs healthy food. Did fine walking on leash. At shelter, she tried to squeeze out from a run. At the vet office, she was fine in her cage. Very cute and cuddly. Needs quiet adult home. Another gentle small dog in home would be best.

  •  Tommy and Teddy were rescued on 2/19/12 from a shelter. Both were nervous at the shelter. Friendly with people once they are comfortable. Teddy tends to follow Tommy. Tommy is the braver of the two. Once out of the shelter, they warm up to volunteers with treats and after some time, wagged their tails. Good on leash during their walk. Both are adorable and sweet. Seem passive and gentle. Was ok meeting vet office cat. Need experience guardian to give him routine, stability and TLC. He would love to stay with his brother, or a home with another dog to help him. More Info. to come.

  •  Jessie was rescued on 2/19/12 from a shelter. He was found lying on a road. At the shelter he was nervous at the shelter and badly matted with burrs. Shelter shaved him down. He has a small scrap on his right side. With our volunteers, once out and with slow movement, he warms up and friendly. Good with other dogs. No cats. He responds well to treats and happy voice. He was fearful of having his collar put on, so person needs to offer him treat and gain his trust before handling. Once he is comfortable with person, he is friendly, allow petting and enjoyed his walk. Need experienced guardian to foster him to see more of his personality. No kids. Adorable huge ears and curly tail. More info. to come.
